To help you <strong>orient yourself<\/strong>\u00a0in the wide range of oils on the market and increase your understanding of the subject, here we present the <strong>names<\/strong>\u00a0and official \u00a0<strong>definitions<\/strong>\u00a0used by the <strong>European Community<\/strong> legislation:<br \/>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;663&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #3c623d;\">Olive oils<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>These are the oils obtained from the fruit of the olive tree by <strong>mechanical<\/strong> or other physical processes, in conditions (in particular thermal) that do not cause alterations of the oil, and that have not undergone any treatment other than <strong>washing<\/strong>, <strong>decanting<\/strong>, <strong>centrifugation<\/strong> and from <strong>filtration<\/strong>, excluding oils obtained by solvent or re-esterification processes and any mixture with oils of another nature.<\/p>\n<p>These oils are classified as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Extra virgin olive oil<\/strong>: virgin olive oil whose <strong>free acidity<\/strong> expressed in oleic acid cannot exceed <strong>1g per 100g<\/strong> and hold the other characteristics that comply with those provided for this category.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Virgin olive oil<\/strong>: virgin olive oil whose <strong>free acidity<\/strong> expressed in oleic acid cannot exceed <strong>2g per 100g<\/strong> and hold other the characteristics that comply with those provided for this category.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Current virgin olive oil<\/strong>: olive oil whose <strong>free acidity<\/strong> expressed in oleic acid cannot exceed <strong>3.3g per 100g<\/strong> and hold the other characteristics that comply with those provided for this category.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lamp virgin olive oil<\/strong>: virgin olive oil whose <strong>free acidity<\/strong> expressed in oleic acid is greater than <strong>3.3 g per 100g<\/strong> and\/or hold the other characteristics that comply with those provided for this category.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #3c623d;\">Refined olive oil <\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It is an olive oil obtained from the <strong>refining<\/strong> of <strong>virgin olive oils<\/strong>, whose <strong>acidity<\/strong> expressed in oleic acid cannot exceed <strong>0.5 per 100g<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #3c623d;\">Virgin olive oil<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It is an olive oil obtained from a <strong>blend of refined olive oil and virgin olive oils<\/strong> other than lamp oil, whose <strong>acidity<\/strong> expressed in oleic acid cannot exceed <strong>1.5 g per 100g<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #3c623d;\">Crude olive pomace oil <\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It is an oil obtained by <strong>solvent treatment<\/strong> of <strong>olive pomace<\/strong>, excluding oils obtained with re-esterification processes and any mixture of oils of another nature.
